Froghair: Heavy Pickle
Thirty-one years ago, when I was an undergrad at SUNY Fredonia and believed I'd one day become a guitar god, I played in a folky band called Froghair with Christine Ghezzo Weiss (vocals, guitar, poetry) Melissa Mioni (viola & recorder), Chris Gear (conga, triangle, vibes) & Scott Jardin (bass).
The music scene in Fredonia in the early & mid-90s was really something special with other bands like Another Dead Sharon, Onion Sniper, Cheese Log and many others.
In 1995 we recorded a cassette in the radio productions studios at SUNY Fredonia. It featured the voices of Damian Sebouhian, Doree Grossman-Lipson, Eric Zwieg, A. Liquid Neiman, and the late-great Todd Dopler! Listening to it now, brings back a lot of great memories.
Some of the albums that influenced me and the songs I was attempting to write included John & Mary's The Weedkiller's Daughter, Unledded by Page & Plant, Loreena McKennitt's Mask & Mirror, Taproot by Michael Hedges, Way to Blue by Nick Drake, The Who's Tommy, and Eric Zwieg's Durkheim's Rule.
